Thaiss Rakes for the Angels
In game one of a three game series against the Colorado Rockies, Matt Thaiss made history last week for the Los Angeles Angels. Thaiss became the first catcher in Angels history to drive in five runs and steal two bases in the same game. He also became the second catcher in major league history to do so.
Thaiss’s first two RBIs came in the third inning when he doubled to right field, cutting the Rockies lead to 6-4. He came up again in the fourth inning with two outs and the bases loaded. Coming through in the clutch again, Thaiss singled to right driving in two more runs and giving the Angels a 7-5 lead. Thaiss would add another insurance run for his team on a single in the bottom of the eighth, giving the Angels a three-run cushion heading into the ninth inning. Thaiss also stole two bags in the game to cap off a historic night.
Thaiss has appeared in 30 games this year, hitting for a .253 average, the best of his career so far. The Angels currently sit outside the wild card but look to finish the season strong.
